VICSWIM summer program to be backed by Victorian Government funding
Aquatics and Recreation Victoria (ARV) has announced that it will receive $400,000 in Victorian Government funding to assist in the running of the 2016/2017 VICSWIM program.
The VICSWIM program is a low cost community aquatic education and water safety program that has delivered water safety lessons to Victorian children, both swimming and survival in a range of aquatic environments, as well as health and social benefits such as enhanced community cohesion and engagement.
ARV is proud to run VICSWIM – a program that has provided water safety education and swimming skills to over 678,000 young Victorians – since its inception in 1976. VICSWIM has been part of a school holiday tradition for over 40 years throughout rural and metropolitan Victoria.
Over the past summer 9,270 Victorian children participated in the program, engaging more than 7,000 families in over 130 locations, with 454 swimming teachers benefiting from casual summer employment.
Documentation related to the implementation of 2017 program will be forward to all previously registered venues in the coming weeks.
