Upgraded facilities and sport surfaces for Wallan's RB Robson Stadium
Wallan's RB Robson Stadium is receiving $480,000 from the Victorian Government and $360,000 from Mitchell Shire Council to upgrade amenities and the stadium’s courts to improve functionality and safety.
The project will deliver two unisex player change rooms, two umpire rooms and an umpire duty room.
The upgrade will also include sanding and resurfacing and installation of adjustable backboards on court 3.
RB Robson Stadium is an important community asset that is heavily utilised by a wide range of user groups within the Mitchell Shire. These new changeroom facilities will mean sport and recreation is more accessible while the resurfaced courts mean everyone participating will enjoy much-improved user experience.
RB Robson Stadium Committee of Management President Jodie Cloke said the upgraded stadium was an exciting development for the growing Wallan community.
Cloke shared “the stadium’s user groups, and the Committee of Management are thrilled with the announcement and are excited for the much-needed improvement and development.
“Thank you to Minister Ros Spence and Mitchell Shire Council for providing the funding for these works that will benefit the whole community.
“We are excited for these works to commence and allow the growth to continue at the stadium and in Wallan.”
Wallan Basketball President Tracy Connors said the improvements will address important issues for the club.
Connors advised “the additional changerooms will mean our female teams will now have a private space to prepare for games.
“The sanding of the courts will mean the deteriorating surface will be safer to play on and the installation of height adjustable backboards means we can provide more inclusive basketball to our youngest players.
“I would like to thank Minister Ros Spence for helping us address these issues and Mitchell Shire Council, who we have been working with closely.
“This is a fabulous outcome for the Committee of Management and all user groups at RB Robson Stadium.”
Birralee Gymnastics President Jenni Wood said the stadium upgrade would benefit the whole Wallan community and added “on behalf of Birralee Gymnastics, we would like to thank Minister Ros Spence for recognising the work needed at the stadium and providing funding support.
“We'd also like to thank Mitchell Shire for their contribution and continuing to advocate on behalf of the community for better facilities in our Shire.”
