Warriewood Valley Sports Courts open in Sydney’s Northern Beaches
Northern Beaches Council advises that the much-needed Warriewood Valley Sports Courts on Boondah Road have just been completed providing an impressive new facility for the local community.
Four multi-use hard courts with lighting, fitness equipment, a half-court basketball court, a 48-space carpark, and a learn-to-ride track around the perimeter are some of the features at the new Boondah Road site.
The courts are not only a fit-for-purpose training facility for local netballers, but they will also be well used by both casual players and formal competitions with all four courts available to be booked. Toilet facilities at the site are still being constructed and will be completed by late January 2021.
To add to the site’s functionality, Council has set up two of the courts over summer for basketball now that the netball season has concluded; and the permanent half-court basketball court will be available for use year round.
In step with Council’s commitment to the environment, nine large palm trees, some over 15 metres in height were transplanted from another location on the site at the start of the construction process.
In addition, several channels have been built at the site to clean the run-off water before it hits Narrabeen Creek as well as a wildlife corridor link at the rear of the site.
Construction costs are in excess of $2.5 million which included demolition, remediation, clearing, design, and construction works.
This project marks the latest of several significant projects in this area to near completion. Council recently called for public input on concept plans for the Warriewood Valley Community Centre and work has commenced on preparing the design for the full upgrade of Boondah Road which will include upgraded parking, shared paths, landscaping, and a fit for purpose road.
