Tourism NT collaboration showcases Northern Territory to USA

A collaboration between Tourism NT, TripAdvisor and the Darwin Street Art Festival will showcase the Northern Territory to a new tourism market in the USA.

The collaboration will highlight the Territory’s nature, wildlife, and Aboriginal culture in a mural activation along Abbot Kinney Boulevard, on the world famous Venice Beach.

Two Territory artists, Jason Lee and Trent Lee, in collaboration with LA-based artist Ryan Yanoe, will unveil their LA mural on 1st October, which captures the essence of both the Top End, and Red Centre.

Their vibrant artwork will feature prominent Larrakia designs and showcase the NT’s stunning diversity, complementing Abbot Kinney Boulevard which is renowned for its eclectic mix of local and international shops, restaurants and galleries.

Reinforcing the Territory’s message will be both LA and NT influencers and content creators, in addition to one LA-based artist creating a new mural in the NT during next year’s DSAF, promoting it back to their US audience.

NT Minister for Tourism and Hospitality Marie-Clare Boothby said initiatives such as this captured the adventurous spirit and rich diversity of the Territory, presenting its unique nature, wildlife and Aboriginal culture in an innovative and captivating way.

Minister Boothby shared “a healthy tourism industry is essential to rebuilding a strong economy.

“This new and innovative campaign focusing on our unique strengths will attract a demographic of US travellers who may not have considered a trip to the Northern Territory before.

“The Darwin Street Art Festival continues to gain momentum each year, drawing internationally acclaimed artists to the Northern Territory. Our vibrant art scene is a cornerstone of our economy thanks to our contemporary galleries, cultural tours, and festivals.

“Spanning the entire Territory, our diverse art offerings create the world’s largest and most dynamic art gallery, attracting tourists and driving economic development across the region.”

Darwin Street Art Festival director David Collins added “this presents the perfect opportunity for US artists to consider getting involved in the DSAF and experience the rich Aboriginal art and culture we have on offer here in the NT.

“We are excited to partner with Tourism NT to showcase the incredible talents of our local Darwin street artists, and to showcase art beyond gallery walls."
