Tourism NT launches online sustainable tourism toolkit for Northern Territory operators

Tourism NT this week launches the online sustainable tourism toolkit, offering Northern Territory tourism operators insightful information, practical ideas and solutions for taking a more sustainable approach to business.

Operators can access information on accreditation, regulations and how to develop their own sustainability strategy.

Valerie Smith from Tourism NT said the interactive and in-depth online resource is a first for the Territory and an opportunity for operators to transform and improve their business practices.

Smith advises “adopting a more sustainable approach is vital for tourism businesses in the Territory. It offers an opportunity to improve their bottom line while taking care of the NT community, environment, and providing an authentic, positive visitor experience.

“The tool kit gives operators the information and tools to enable them to take active steps along the path to sustainability, helping to future-proof their business and protect and connect with the places and people they visit.

“It also offers tips on ways to entice sustainable travellers to the Territory and how to help them travel for good, caring for our home while they are here.”   

Local operator Sea Darwin, who commenced their journey towards sustainability in 2008 said the toolkit will be an invaluable resource to the industry and is pleased that Tourism NT has recognised sustainability as an important part of delivering quality products and experiences to visitors.

“Sustainability is a way of thinking and operating. Once you make the change, the benefits will outweigh any costs.”

Research by the Expedia Group shows that 90% of travellers are looking for sustainable options and many tourism operators across the Territory already support green travel and culturally responsible experiences.
