Tickets in short supply for New Zealand's FIFA World Cup playoff

With the All Whites having kept their hopes of qualifying for the 2018 FIFA World Cup alive after a spirited scoreless draw against Peru at Wellington's Westpac Stadium yesterday (Saturday 11th November) attention is now turning the second leg, in the Peruivan capital of Lima on Wednesday.

Walking out to a near-capacity crowd of over 37,000, the OFC Nations Cup champions put on a determined performance which showed they could match the fifth-ranked South American side.

For both New Zealand and Peruvian fans, tickets for the 50,000 capacity Estadio Nacional de Lima are in high demand for the second leg of the International Playoff.

Diehard All Whites fans have had flights to South America booked for several months in anticiaption of the two-legged tie, with just a relocation flight within South America to be booked once the opposition was known.

However, according to James Richardson of The Totally Football Show podcast "their plans have been scuppered by New Zealand Football who have given the entire allocation of match day tickets to a travel partner who are ... trying to sell the tickets as part of a four-day accommodation deal or, if they want to buy them individually have to pay double the price but get a scarf thrown in."

The New Zealand Football is currently advertising packages for the game "available through Sporting Tours from NZ$350."

In Peru, there are concerns that more than 30,000 seats for the expected sell-out game have been allocated to sponsors, with over 600,000 Peruvian fans applied for a ticket lottery for 20,000 available tickets.

Predictably, tickets for the match are being advertised for sale via Viagogo.

The Estadio Nacional de Lima has been refurbished for the upcoming 2019 Pan American Games.
