Thredbo Resort and Snow Australia partner to deliver sanctioned FIS Park Events

Delivering a significant boost for freestyle athletes, Thredbo Resort in partnership with Snow Australia, has announced that the Thredbo Triple Crown Slopestyle and Big Air events will now be officially sanctioned as FIS competitions and included in the prestigious Australian New Zealand Cup (ANC) Series.

FIS, short for the International Ski and Snowboard Federation, is the international governing body for skiing and snowboarding. They oversee the Olympic disciplines of Alpine skiing, cross-country skiing, ski jumping, Nordic combined, freestyle skiing, and snowboarding, as well as setting the international competition rules. FIS is also responsible for the organisation and promotion of various competitions and events, including the FIS Freeride World Championships.

This landmark collaboration between Thredbo and Snow Australia presents a major milestone in elevating Australia's freestyle ski and snowboard pathway, providing athletes greater opportunities to gain recognition, earn FIS points, and progress toward success on the international stage.

As a part of this partnership, the 2025 Thredbo Triple Crown Series, presented by Boost Mobile, will host the first park FIS events in Australia since 2022. FIS-registered athletes will now have the opportunity to earn FIS points across Youth, Junior and Open categories - all judged using the official FIS point scale. With points counting toward both the Triple Crown and ANC standings, athletes have the unique opportunity to earn valuable FIS points while competing for a share of the $60,000 prize pool, offering dual pathways for performance recognition and career progression.

Johnny Lipzker, Snow Australia Sport Development Coordinator, says this is a game-changing opportunity for our athletes and enthused "Snow Australia is excited to work with Thredbo to deliver a meaningful competition experience here at home. Not only does this help athletes gain FIS points, but it also enhances their ability to qualify for international events like the Europa Cup and, ultimately, the Olympic Games.”

Sam Noller, Thredbo Event Manager, added "we're thrilled to bring FIS-sanctioned park events back to Thredbo as a part of the Triple Crown. This partnership with Snow Australia is a testament to our long-standing commitment to freestyle progression and gives athletes a high-quality, competitive platform to launch their international careers, all right here in the Aussie Alps."

The winner of the ANC series, determined by results from two Slopestyle events and one Big Air, will earn a personal World Cup quota spot for the 2025/26 season. This is a crucial stepping stone for Australian athletes eyeing qualification for the 2026 Milano Cortina Winter Olympic Games.

This collaboration shines a spotlight on Thredbo's deepening commitment to athlete development and solidifies the Triple Crown's status as a premier competition series in the Southern Hemisphere.

The Thredbo Triple Crown Slopestyle event is taking place on 1st August and Big Air on 25th August.
