Tasmania’s Wukalina Walk listed among TIME’s  2024 World's Best Places

Popular media outlet, TIME magazine, has included Tasmania's wukalina Walk in its list of World's Greatest Places for 2024. This is the first time Tasmania has made the list, which is compiled annually by TIME's editors and correspondents from around the world, who select the most desirable travel destinations and experiences to explore, stay and visit from across the globe.

wukalina Walk - a multi-day walk, led by Aboriginal guides - takes guests across wukalina (Mt William National Park) and larapuna (Bay of Fires) and has won many awards including winning GOLD at the 2023 Qantas Australian Tourism Awards in Darwin last year.

Tasmanian Premier and Minister for Tourism and Hospitality, Jeremy Rockliff congratulated wukalina Walk for being recognised by TIME as one of the world's greatest places and added "this is an incredible achievement for wukalina Walk and Tasmania.

"It is also important recognition for the Tasmanian Aboriginal community and the work wukalina Walk are doing to connect guests with Aboriginal history, culture and Country."

Tasmanian palawa Elder and founder of wukalina Walk, Clyde Mansell, said sharing our stories and our history on cultural homeland is an integral part of the experience.

Mansell shared "It also allows us to increase employment, involve our young people and contribute to our self-determination, by creating more opportunities for the palawa community.

"We've had comments over the years where guests have said it's changed their lives and their whole thinking about how they should relate to Aboriginal people."

International visitation is an important strategic focus for Tourism Tasmania and the economic contribution from these visitors is critical to Tasmania's tourism industry.

Tasmania's recognition in this key international media publication helps reach new audiences.

TIME Magazine have an audience reach of more than 120 million people worldwide via TIME's print magazine, website and socials.
