New Walking and Cycling trail delivered in Melbourne's north
The Victorian Government has delivered the first two stages of the Yan Yean Pipe Track so that cyclists and pedestrians in Melbourne's north can enjoy improved and safer connections.
Construction of stages 1 and 2 of Yan Yean Pipe Track was part of the Victorian Government's $9.8 million investment to deliver new cycling and walking trails in Melbourne's north as part of the Northern Metropolitan Trails Program.
The State Government invested $1 million to deliver the 1.6 kilometre cycling and walking trail which connects the Darebin Creek Trail to Childs Road in Mill Park.
The paved trail now includes seating, landscaping, and safe road crossings at several locations.
Once all five stages of the trail are complete, walkers, runners, and cyclists will be able to enjoy a 3.75 kilometre stretch of trail connecting shopping precincts, community facilities, and local schools.
Whittlesea City Council is designing and delivering the five-stage project, working with locals to ensure the project meets the community's needs.
Victorian Minister for the Environment Ingrid Stitt noted "delivering the first two stages of the Yan Yean Pipe Track will ensure Melbournians can experience a safer and easier connection from the Darebin Creek Trail to Childs Road.
"This is a great example of how we are working with local government to deliver much-needed connections for commuters."
