Sydney’s Old Merchant House transforms into Halloween Horror venue

BBR Group, a leading Australian event, PR, and digital company, is transforming the Old Merchant House in Sydney at The Rocks into a multi-level pop-up club with DJs takeovers, themed rooms, and bars for a one-of-a-kind immersive party experience this Halloween.

Each of the building's four floors will be transformed into a nightmare-inducing landscape, immersing partygoers in an experience that blends history, horror, and high-energy entertainment.

From 31st October to 2nd November 2024, special permission has been granted to open this heritage-listed venue to the public for Halloween experiences,

Steeped in ghostly lore since 1841, the Old Merchant House has long been known for unexplained paranormal activity. Cold chills on the top level, eerie sightings, and mysterious images caught on camera have fuelled its haunted reputation. This is not just a Halloween party—it’s an interactive journey into the world of the supernatural.

The House of Horrors is no ordinary event—this is a sensory overload where guests become part of the story. From themed rooms and interactive performances to pulse-pounding music, every corner of this haunted house offers a new, eerie encounter.

  • THE GHOST ROOM: The centrepiece of the haunted experience. This room, located in the most active part of the house for paranormal sightings, is where spirits are said to roam freely. Partygoers will dance among the ghosts with eerie lighting, fog effects, and spectral figures watching from the shadows. Expect the unexpected as dancers and actors blur the lines between reality and the supernatural.

  • THE VAMPIRE DEN: Hidden at the top floor, this dimly lit, gothic bar will lure guests deeper into the darkness. Seductive figures, draped in velvet and candlelight, invite you to sip dangerously delicious cocktails in a blood bag, served from a coffin-shaped bar.

  • THE ABANDONED HOSPITAL: Enter a decaying medical facility where the line between sanity and madness disappears. This haunting room features hospital-themed decor, where guests will sip cocktails served in syringes and enjoy the eerie ambiance of this dark medical maze. The dance floor will pulse with chilling beats while performers dressed as deranged doctors and nurses ensure no one feels entirely safe.

  • THE SLAUGHTERHOUSE: Blood-soaked walls, haunting screams, and gruesome surprises await those who dare to enter. This room isn’t for the faint of heart, as it recreates the terror of a slaughterhouse where survival is uncertain.

DJs Nick Reverse, André Müller, Corey Kennedy and more will conjure a spellbinding fusion of electro techno, sultry R&B/pop, and bone-rattling tech house, turning the multi-level venue into a haunted labyrinth of beats and chills.

This immersive experience includes live performers who will make you feel like you’re part of a living nightmare. Dancers, actors, and street performers will weave through the crowd, bringing each room to life with chilling interactions. Also include are a Fortune Teller hidden in the shadows of the Ghost Room and an Ouija board where guests can try to contact spirits.

This is a rare opportunity to explore one of The Rock’s most haunted locations. What sets this event apart from any other Halloween party is the venue itself. The Old Merchant House is not just a stage for the party—it’s a living, breathing part of the experience. Paranormal investigators and visitors have long reported strange occurrences inside its walls. Cold spots, flickering lights, and the feeling of being watched are just the beginning. Guests have captured ghostly images on camera, and the top floor is known for sudden, unexplained chills.
