Sydney's Luna Park to undergo $30 million facelift

Sydney's Luna Park is to get a $30 million upgrade that will include the addition of nine new rides - aimed at boosting tourism and helping in the economic recovery of NSW post-COVID-19

NSW Minister for Jobs, Investment, Tourism and Western Sydney, Stuart Ayres announced this morning that the additions to the 85 year old attraction will include with six new children's rides, a thrill ride, a family rollercoaster as well as The Big Dipper - which will be the first inline seating launch rollercoaster in the world.

To limit the noise impact on neighbours, this state-of-the-art 'one-seat wide' train is smaller than the previous Big Dipper at Luna Park.

Advising that every ride and attraction would comply with regulations relating to noise, height, lights, and hours of operation that had been in place since 2004, Minister Ayres stated "this investment will attract more people to Sydney and ensure that Luna Park continues providing joy and excitement to millions of families and children for the next 85 years and beyond.

"It is yet another sign of confidence in NSW and our economic future - and a sign of confidence that Sydney is back in business."

Luna Park Managing Director, Peter Hearne said the upgrade would respect the heritage and history of the much-loved Sydney destination, adding "we are just going to make it even better than it is now, while still preserving its wonderful heritage."

The park will close for renovations on 27th January 2021 and re-open in mid-June next year.

Luna Park Melbourne
With Victoria's Coronavirus lockdown measure being eased, Melbourne's Luna Park Melbourne is anticipating reopening in the coming weeks.

In a message on its website, the attraction advises "(we are) literally over the moon to hear news of lockdown restrictions in Melbourne beginning to ease ... it means our team can begin preparations for re-opening under an enhanced COVIDSafe Plan that was successfully put into action back in July.

"At the moment we’re aiming to open the fun gates towards the end of November/early December subject to Victorian Government confirmation."
