Sydney Uni Sport & Fitness opens $15 million sport arena and fitness expansion

The Sydney University Sports & Aquatic Centre has opened its $15 million expansion, unveiling its new multi-function sports hall/arena and fitness facilities.

The new arena will accommodate badminton, indoor football/futsal, netball and basketball and, with a permanent grandstand and broadcast facilities, the arena also be the home court for the Brydens Sydney Uni Flames team competing in the Womens National Backetball League (WNBL).

In addition to its role as an elite sport facility, Sydney Uni Sport & Fitness (SUSF) are also highlighting the facility as a community asset, holding a 'Free Family Open Day' on Saturday 17th August.

The state-of-the-art facility offers a 50 metre indoor swimming pool; 70 group fitness classes per week staged in an enlarged fitness studio; new cardio equipment pieces and modern strength and fitness equipment set within expanded cardio and weights rooms; boxing and dojo rooms; tennis and squash courts.

Billed as the "inner west's best new gym facility", SUSF are keen to emphasise the opportunities for the facility to satisfy the sporting, recreation and fitness goals of the local community.

As SUSF Executive Director Robert Smithies explains "there have never been more opportunities for the Inner West community to satisfy their sporting, recreational and fitness goals."

In addition to the Sydney Uni Sports & Aquatic Centre, SUSF also operate the Arena Sports Centre in nearby Camperdown.

The facilities offer:

• 70 of the latest LifeFitness cardio equipment pieces treadmills, cross-trainers and bikes spread across two facilities.
• 70 Group Fitness classes per week staged in a larger than ever studio holding up to 70 attendees. Classes include 'Les Mills' programs like BodyPump and CXWorx, alongside Kickboxing, Yoga and Pilates classes.
• Modern strength and fitness equipment set within expanded cardio, weights and stretching rooms.
• A 50 metre heated indoor swimming pool.
• 12 school holiday camps to choose from throughout the year, including netball, football, fencing and archery, and multi-sport.
• 10 Personal Trainers to push users/member towards their goals.
• Six tennis courts, for hire or Cardio Tennis.
• 50 Short Courses including XtendBarre, Dance, Fencing and Scuba Diving.
• Lunchtime Social Sport competitions indoor football/Futsal, touch football and dodgeball.

As part of the launch ceremony for the expanded Sydney University Sports & Aquatic Centre, SUSF President announced that a new grandstand and fitness facility is to be developed on Sydney University Oval 2.
