Sydney park upgrade to offer play and relaxation for all

An updated playground and more seating and places for parents and carers to relax are just some of the improvements the City of Sydney will soon be making to a popular park in the suburb of Alexandria.

As part of the project, an imaginative new play area with new equipment will encourage children to interact with the natural environment beneath the shade of trees in Renwick Street Playground, between Renwick Street and Renwick Lane.

Park furniture will be refurbished with high-quality materials, extra seating for more social interaction and better sight lines to help keep tabs on little ones.

Introducing the plan, Sydney Lord Mayor Clover Moore stated “the improvements to Renwick Street Playground will give the little ones more play activities and make the park a better meeting point for the community.

“Well-designed parks are becoming increasingly important as the city grows and more people live in dwellings without backyards.

“There are more than 330 small parks and playgrounds in the city and our improvement program gives residents new and updated equipment and beautiful green spaces to relax and spend time.”

More welcoming pathways from entries in Jennings and Renwick Streets will improve access to the Renwick Street Playground, and a new water bubbler will help quench the thirst of active youngsters.

The 425 metre² park will also receive a new lawn, with new deciduous trees, shrubs and ground covers.

Locals were supportive of the proposal when invited to give their feedback on plans for the playground during consultation on the park’s design from August to September.

The City of Sydney council has renewed 34 small parks in recent years in a continuous upgrade program of all local parks and green spaces.
