Sydney Olympic Park Aquatic Centre gets top safety endorsement
The Sydney Olympic Park Aquatic Centre has received a 99.79% safety endorsement in a recent safety assessment by the Royal Life Saving Society Australia.
Managed by Sydney Olympic Park Authority (SOPA), the venue consists of pools, spas, water play areas, slides, swim school and a health club ensuring something for everyone.
The recent audit was based on the Guidelines for Safe Pool Operations, Australian Standards and state legislation specific to aquatic safety criteria and covered all areas of management, design and operations.
SOPA Chief Executive Alan Marsh said the result was an improvement on the previous year's impressive score of 99.18% and reflected SOPA's determination to ensure safety is paramount in the daily operations of an aquatic centre that attracts well in excess of one million visitors per year.
Marsh stated "safety is the priority for every aquatic centre, and to see the state's most popular venue achieve such a high rating is very rewarding for everyone at the Sydney Olympic Park Aquatic Centre."
The continued commitment to best practice aquatic safety standards at the Sydney Olympic Park Aquatic Centre is further supported by its listing as a 5 Star Water Safety Partner, having met stringent benchmarks for safe pool operation.
NSW Minister for Sport and Recreation, Graham Annesley congratulated management of the Sydney Olympic Park Aquatic Centre on the safety assessment score, stating "this outstanding result is a credit to the management of the State's premier aquatic centre and emphasises just how important a safety-first approach is when dealing with water sports or activities.
"I congratulate all staff on their commitment to providing a safe recreational environment for patrons of all ages.
"Our summer has seen temperatures push the mercury to the limit, with people looking for relief at the beach, or in pools and Aquatic Centres.
"The Sydney Olympic Park Aquatic Centre boasts the highest visitor numbers of any similar venue in New South Wales. It has the largest swim school in the state with over 4,000 students per term and more than 1,200 health club members."
