Sydney named as host for ATE 2022 as domestic tourism rebounds

As domestic tourism continues its recovery, the Australian Tourism Exchange (ATE) will head to Sydney in 2022, being staged in a hybrid format at ICC Sydney from 15th to 18th May.

The announcement of the return of ATC, which is expected to attract around 1,700 delegates, coincided with news that domestic tourism is expected to bounce back to pre-pandemic levels next financial year, according to a new report released by Tourism Research Australia.

Commenting on this resurgence, Federal Tourism Minister, Dan Tehan stated “as we stick to the National Plan, Australians can be confident about the future as our recovery from Covid continues strongly into 2022.

"It is going to be a year of great opportunity for Australians, especially our tourism operators.

“The long-term benefits from ATE are substantial. The relationships and future business it establishes can help grow Australia’s inbound tourism industry, which was worth $45 billion annually pre Covid-19, and will create jobs across the country.”

“We know there is massive pent-up demand from Australians who want to travel interstate, so we expect 2022 to be a bumper year for domestic tourism and this report shows this,”

NSW Tourism Minister Stuart Ayres said ATE will showcase everything the state has to offer and will use the event to support its ambition to be the number one visitor economy of the Asia Pacific.

Minister Ayres advised “New South Wales is open for business and we are excited for Sydney to take centre stage and host this very important event for our visitor economy in 2022, especially as we work together to recover from the Covid-19 pandemic.”.

“Our government is committed to working with commercial partners and visitor economy stakeholders at home and overseas to revitalise the industry, enable its recovery and accelerate growth.”
