Two-day National Tourism and Hospitality Virtual Jobs Fair starts today
With critical workforce shortages impacting many parts of the recovery of the industry, the Federal Government will be hosing the first ever National Tourism and Hospitality Virtual Jobs Fair where job seekers, employers and employment service providers can come together to discuss jobs on offer in the hospitality and tourism industries right across Australia.
Being held from midday to 4pm (AEST) today and tomorrow (Wednesday 24th and Thursday 25th November), the free online event will feature employers looking to hire, informative workshops from industry professionals and information about training and qualifications.
In the region of than 25,000 in-demand jobs nationwide are expected to be promoted.
Introducing the Fair, Federal Minister for Employment, Workforce, Skills, Small and Family Business, Stuart Robert said a positive outlook for next year’s travellers means restaurants and hotels across Australia have a renewed appetite for hiring, stating “as restrictions ease and the visitor economy comes roaring back, businesses will need to be able to scale-up their operations quickly to meet increased demand.
“Connecting job seekers directly with employers at this virtual jobs fair is a win-win - it gets people into work and it gets our economy going.”
The Fair follows the Federal Government having offered targeted packages, including $70 million for tourism operators on the Gold Coast, in addition to wage subsidy programs like JobKeeper, through the COVID-19 pandemic.
The $6.2 million Jobs Fairs program complements other measures the Government has set up to connect employers and job seekers such as the $276 million Local Jobs Program.
