Sydney FC fan evicted from A-League finals game over disabled daughter's bathroom access

A Sydney FC fan has claimed that his disabled daughter was "traumatised" after being escorted out of the Netstrata Jubilee Stadium (formerly Kogarah Park) by NSW Police in front of thousands of jeering fans during the Sydney FC versus Melbourne Victory A-league semi-final yesterday.

Footage posted on social media shows a heated exchange between Sydney FC fan Rory Carroll and uniformed NSW Police officers as a result of Carroll trying to take his disabled daughter to the bathroom.

Carroll said the argument started when he tried to take his daughter into a nearby disabled toilet, which was located in a restricted area.

In videos posted to social media, Carroll asks Police and security "Are you serious?" while his daughter watches on.

He states "the disabled toilets - because my daughter needs it - are right there and they won't let me take my daughter through."

Carroll then points at a security guard as he continued arguing with the Police, adding "you guys want to kick me out because he said so and I can't take my disabled daughter 5 metres."

NSW Police, who have a reputation for heavy-handiness at A-League fixtures, have denied the incident and suggested Carroll was trying to access a restricted seating and hospitality area.

Carroll today issued a media statement and rejected suggestions he was trying to access alocohol in a hospitality area.

In his statement he advised "I was not drinking alcohol, but Coca-Cola, not least because I was in charge of three young children."

He also explained that he went alone to check the disabled bathroom was "in a clean state" before taking his daughter to use the facilities.

He continued "security officials tried to physically stop me from doing so, placing a hand on my arm. Even though this was physically threatening to me, I ignored and proceeded to check the bathroom."

Federation Football Australia (FFA) board member Remo Nogarotto also took to social media to vent about the incident.

Nogarotto wrote on Twitter "this is disgraceful and the FFA needs to make its outrage heard at a political level.

"If senior elements of the NSW Police can't see the absurdity and humiliation of tonight's incident then their political masters need to intervene."

An FFA spokesperson said the organisation and Sydney FC had reached out to Carroll.
