Swim and Survive partners celebrate NT Government funded school swimming and water safety program
Royal Life Saving is today hosting over 20 key Swim and Survive partners to celebrate the end of term one for the Northern Territory Government funded school swimming and water safety program for students in years one to six.
Over 35 schools have taken part with more than 4,000 students completing the Swim and Survive program.
Floss Roberts, Executive Director of Royal Life Saving NT advised “there has been a remarkable response from schools in the Northern Territory. In total, over 35 schools have taken part during the first ten weeks of school. We have seen more than 4,000 students in the Territory completing their vital Swim and Survive program.
“Some of the schools taking part are doing so for the first time in decades because $150 per child makes a massive difference to accessibility for families.
“We are extremely proud that schools, swim schools and families have all come together on this important initiative that ensures our children do not miss out on getting vital lifesaving skills whilst they are in primary school.”
Roberts added “we have a shared goal of helping 20,000 students from years one to six to participate in the program. It is all about improving water safety skills and confidence in the water so that students achieve the National Benchmark of Water Safety Competency at the completion of primary school.”
Royal Life Saving Australia's Swim and Survive program has been a cornerstone of water safety education for over 40 years. Aligned with the National Swimming and Water Safety Framework, it equips children with essential swimming, survival and lifesaving skills. This fun and engaging program helps participants meet and exceed national benchmarks, ensuring they stay safe and confident around water.
