Brimbank Leisure Centres’ updated ‘Swim and Survive’ program caters for up to 1000 new students
Brimbank Leisure Centres has advised that it can accommodate up to 1000 new students in its newly-transformed swimming program - ‘Swim and Survive’ - for Term One 2021.
Term One lessons commence at Sunshine Leisure Centre located in Sunshine, Victoria, on 1st February 2021 with the Centre now open, Monday to Friday, from 6am–9pm, and 8am–5pm on weekends.
The new ‘Swim and Survive’ program offers lessons for young and old, with places now available for babies from three months of age through to adults.
Brimbank Mayor, Ranka Rasic said swimming lessons were important for all ages, especially children and notes “many people have missed out on swim lessons due to COVID-19.
“With great capacity at Brimbank Leisure Centres, the new year is an ideal time to get back into swimming lessons.
“While it’s important to always observe children in water, teaching them how to be safe around the water is a vital skill.
“The revitalised 2021 Swim and Survive program is the first to be mapped on the new National swimming and water safety framework.
“These changes ensure the curriculum and skill progression map provide the best outcomes for Brimbank children and families.”
According to the latest Life Saving Victoria report, at least 35 people have drowned in Victorian waters since 1st July 2020, the highest figure since the records began in 2000.
It is estimated 145,000 children per week missed out on swimming lessons due to COVID-19 restrictions.
Enrolling in swimming lessons now allows a visit to the pool at no charge with a swim school membership, from the date that you enrol.
Lessons are 30 minutes, and cost $14.50 per week or $13.05 per week concession – including unlimited pool entry. Times are available on weekends, as well as after school and during the day for younger children.
