Surf Life Saving WA holds successful second annual Rookie Lifeguard Program
Surf Life Saving WA has held their second annual Rookie Lifeguard Program - hosting an outstanding group of recruits, all eager to challenge themselves and tackle a range of demanding activities during the five-day program.
Rookies participated in sessions that included rescue board control in the surf, simulated diver drop training with the Westpac Life Saver Rescue Helicopter Service crew, fitness testing (including the lifeguard ‘mission’), SurfCom and radio operations, RWC familiarisation and Advanced Lifesaving Techniques.
The week gave recruits exposure to the various Lifeguard and Support Operations opportunities available within SLSWA and club-based support operations and a taste of the skills required to successfully step into professional services.
Surf Life Saving WA congratulated the top ten recruits (pictured below) who, based upon their performance throughout the Program, were selected from among their peers to complete an immersion week with SLSWA’s Lifesaving Services.
The final selection was extremely difficult, with areas of assessment including demonstrated leadership and attitude, fitness, First Aid/CPR scenarios and a formal interview video.
