Suntec renews partnership with Adelaide Convention Centre

Singapore's Suntec has renewed its sales and marketing representation with the Adelaide Convention Centre (ACC).

Extending the contact first agreed at the start of 2011, Suntec International will continue to spearhead efforts in drawing more meetings and events from Asia to Adelaide.

ACC Chief Executive Alec Gilbert said Suntec has provided the venue with "valuable leads" from various Asian associations over the past 18 months, stating "we are pleased with the head start and decided to continue the partnership agreement."

The ACC is currently undergoing a $350 million redevelopment program, the first stage of which, due to be completed in 2014, will see an additional 4,300 metres2 of convention, function and meeting spaces as well as a new ballroom. The second stage, which is expected to be ready by 2017, will include a 3,500-seat plenary space.

Suntec Chief Executive Pieter Idenburg explained "as a pioneer in Asia's MICE industry, we have the knowledge and extensive sales network that will help our clients gain direct access to the Asia market.

"This continued collaboration with the Adelaide Convention Centre bears testimony to how clients can tap Suntec International to broaden their reach and visibility in Asia."

Adelaide's Riverbank precinct is now a hive of activity as major works are also being carried out alongside the Centre with the redevelopment of Adelaide Oval into a world class sporting stadium.

Despite all the work, business at the Centre remains unaffected as the strategic capital works program allows for continuous operation.

The redeveloped Centre's enlarged capacity and increased flexibility is set to deliver ongoing economic benefits to Adelaide.

As Gilbert adds, "over the past 25 years, the Centre has generated over $1 billion in direct economic benefits to the South Australia from delegate spend and associated tourism.

"Notwithstanding its success to date, the Centre operates in a highly competitive global convention and exhibition industry which is required to provide larger and more multi-purpose space with the latest in facility quality and service."

Opened in June 1987, the Adelaide Convention Centre was the first purpose-built convention centre in Australia. It was built 'to generate economic benefits for South Australia' by attracting a high yield tourism sector to the state for the purpose of attending events hosted at the Centre.
