Subway continues backing of Australia’s junior surfing community

Australia’s junior surfing community will again be supported by Subway Australia, with confirmation the brand will continue its successful partnership with Surfing Australia and the World Surf League (WSL) for a third year, through the Subway® Surf Series.

Since announcing their support of the event in 2014, the partnership with Subway has seen the grassroots competition grow significantly from three events to a seven-event Pro Junior competition, providing the winning athletes with an opportunity to win a coveted world title at the WSL Junior Championships in 2018.

Surfing Australia General Manager of Sponsorship and Events Jake White said the Subway Surf Series provides a vital stepping stone for the country’s junior surfers to move through to the WSL World Tour.

White explained “without the Subway Surf Series there would be a significant gap in our sports development pathway and in Australia’s junior surfing community.

“The series represents an important link in the ‘pathway to the podium’ developed by Surfing Australia, allowing young surfers to progress their junior careers.”

Subway® Australia Marketing Manager Kate Brody said the brand’s partnership with Surfing Australia’s national grassroots surfing competition is an extension of Subway’s commitment to a healthy, active lifestyle.

Brody commented “Subway Australia is committed to working with the young Australian community to promote healthy eating with the Subway® Surf Series being a perfect opportunity to showcase young surfers and their family and friends getting outdoors and being active.”

Australian surfing legends Joel Parkinson and Laura Enever are confirmed as ambassadors for the series in 2017.

The Subway Surf Series is an internationally recognised surfing event series, which aims to propel Australia’s leading junior surfers into successful careers with the support of Surfing Australia and the World Surf League (WSL). The event series, which includes 18 years and under boys and girls divisions, is the only event of its kind, created to shape Australia’s leading junior surfers.

The series will include events in New South Wales, Queensland and Western Australia with the first competition held at Victoria’s Bells Beach in 14th and 15th January.
