Ed.Square Town Centre celebrates women in wellness, hospitality and cinema this International Women’s Day

Ed.Square Town Centre, south west Sydney’s one-stop precinct for retail, wellness, hospitality and family entertainment, is celebrating the ‘Women of Ed.’ this International Women's Day and has spotlighted a number of local women in business who operate within the centre including Yen Ly of KX Pilates, Melissa Hunter of Event Cinema and Hanna Beshai of Degani Café.

To honour the day, Ed.Square has brought together these local women in business to voice their journeys, and to shine a light on some of the incredible women in retail who call the centre home.

Amanda Whittle, Senior Centre Manager, Frasers Property Australia says they are proud to have such a diverse collective of women in business contributing to the Ed.Square community and notes “with the theme for International Women’s Day being #BreakTheBias, Ed.Square is championing diversity, inclusivity and equality in all its forms this March."

Ed.Square wanted to take the opportunity to share the stories behind these familiar faces, and to recognise the strength, perseverance and fierce ambition among them.

Yen Ly from KX Pilates (pictured above) shares ““I grew up in Western Sydney, so being able to offer the community a valley of health and wellness where local women can build their confidence means a lot to me. The most inspiring woman in my life is my mother. About 30 years ago we escaped the Vietnam war, and I was born in a refugee camp in Malaysia. Coming to a new country, not being able to speak a word of English and raising three kids, she has been such a strength and inspiration in my life.”

Melissa Hunter, Operator Event Cinema (pictured above) advises “A woman who has been particularly instrumental in my journey is our Event Cinemas State Manager, Sam Henshaw. She is fierce, passionate, and hardworking. She has always supported me professionally and personally, and that’s something that I like to continue with my team as well. I think it’s important to stand together as women in any industry. That can mean employing young girls, and really paving the way for them to achieve. The advice I try to pass on to my own daughter is to never give up - take risks. You can be a great mum, and a great leader at work - you can have it all.”

Hanna Beshai, Owner  Degani Café (pictured above) adds “being a woman and running my own business, every day is a new challenge. I’m also juggling my role as a wife, a cook, a cleaner, a teacher - but every day I believe I’m growing stronger. As women in business, it’s very important to support each other, work together, and show people that there’s nothing we cannot do.”

Ed.Square Town Centre is located in the growth corridor at the northern periphery of Sydney’s south west and offers over 20 different cuisines from around the globe with an inner-city alfresco dining precinct, Eat Street, the centre creates a vibrant and family friendly dining and entertainment destination. Adding to the entertainment offering, Ed.Square is also home to leading Australian entertainment centre, iPlay, featuring over 80 arcade games, a bowling alley, and a bar known as Jimmy’s Bar.
