Study to reveal impact of country and community shows
The Queensland Chamber of Agricultural Societies (QCAS) is completing a study outlining the economic and social impact of country and community shows.
The national study, to be released at the 2012 EKKA, was backed by Federal funding.
QCAS Chief Executive Mark Bryant recently told the ABC that this is first time the impact of shows has been studied in this much detail.
Bryant says the study it is important because of the new challenges facing show organisers, stating "times have changed and they are competing against so many other events.
"They are competing for sponsorship and for volunteers (and) still put on that professional event.
"We are hoping (that the study) will be used ... to give the show societies themselves an opportunity to look at strategic planning, an opportunity to look at how they do their business now and how they can do that better."
Bryant told the ABC that show societies are keen to use the information for future planning, adding "we have not been able to find anything that's been done to this level."
