Stephen Bendle to join YMCA Australia team

Stephen Bendle, who performed the role of interim Chief Executive at YMCA NSW on secondment from YMCA Victoria for much of the year, is to join YMCA Australia in the New Year.

In his new role, Bendle will be responsible for YMCA Australia’s advocacy, with YMCA Australia Chief Executive Ron Mell explaining “as we saw at the recent convention advocacy plays an important role in our national and indeed global strategy.

“The ability to leverage the significant footprint of the YMCA through influencing governments, policy, and partners across a wide range of issues is a significant opportunity that we will now be able to tackle.

“YMCA Victoria has kindly offered for Stephen to continue to work with their resources in this area which will enable Stephen to get a head start on building our advocacy framework, strategy and work plan.

“Stephen brings a great deal of experience into the national office and will be an important member of our team.  I am sure he will be in contact in the New Year to engage you in the advocacy work.”

Stephen Bendle has written on the YMCA’s development of healthy eating programs in the November/December 2014 issue of Australasian Leisure Management.
