Star Trac to close California factory
US-based fitness equipment supplier Star Trac has announced that its Murrieta Strength Manufacture Plant in California will close at the end of this month.
The company announced that the closure would be effective from 31st May, with operations at its Irvine, California headquarters also to be streamlined. The move will result in around 75 job losses.
Star Trac, which is owned by fitness industry veteran Michael Bruno's Core Industries, has confirmed that its Impact Strength Line will be transferred to the Land America Plant in Xiamen, China.
Bruno, who also has holdings in Canada-based Stairmaster, owns the the Land America manufacturing facility.
Bruno acquired Star Trac last July and reorganised the company in a bid to drive forward continued growth, which involved streamlining proposals. At the end of last year, Bruno entered Star Trac into an Assignment for the Benefit of Creditors (an alternative to bankruptcy) in accordance with California law.
In a statement, a Star Trac spokesperson explained "corporate operations are now are now consolidated at the Myford (Irvine) facility.
"This is part Star Trac's streamlining process to develop a more efficient manufacture through distribution operations to serve its global customer base."
Star Trac products are distributed by Blue Fitness in Australia and New Zealand.
