Design work begins on Canberra’s Acton Waterfront park
Design work has started on Canberra’s new Acton Waterfront park to be located next to the lake-edge boardwalk on land reclaimed from Lake Burley Griffin as part of the project.
Following community feedback, the new park will cater for everyday recreational uses while also being a tourist destination. It will provide an accessible and high-quality space for events, exhibitions, community gatherings and other activities.
The community will soon be invited to provide input on the park’s design and the challenges and opportunities for the space.
City Renewal Authority Chief EXecutive Malcolm Snow said the primary aim is to transform this part of the Acton Waterfront into a popular public open space for all Canberrans to enjoy.
“We want to know what facilities people would like to see, and how they want to use the space. Please help us create a ‘go-to’ destination on the lake that is treasured asset for years to come,” Snow said.
It is expected the design will be finalised in 2022, ready for construction in early 2023, subject to Government and Works Approval by the National Capital Authority.
