Star Casino sacks Managing Director
Sid Vaikunta, the Managing Director of Sydney's Star Casino has been sacked.
Echo Entertainment Group Chief Executive Larry Mullin announced the termination yesterday in in a statement to the Australian Securities Exchange. The statement read "Mr Vaikunta's employment has ended after his behaviour in a work setting".
The Sydney Morning Herald newspaper has suggested that the sacking refers to one or more incidents of sexual harassment in the workplace.
The Sydney newpaper reported that it understands "Vaikunta was removed in relation to allegations of sexual harassment" adding " the sacking comes soon after the casino's glittering relaunch and weeks after its licence was renewed after a statutory investigation conducted for the Casino, Liquor and Gaming Control Authority."
Vaikunta oversaw the relaunch of the casino in October after an $850 million redevelopment and had led the venue's hosting of major international entertainment personalities including Leonardo DiCaprio, Olivia Newton-John, Russell Crowe, and Jon Bon Jovi and invested heavily in performances by Elton John, Stevie Wonder and Al Pacino.
