Standard Chartered Marathon Singapore named best local sport event at the Singapore Sports Awards
The Standard Chartered Marathon Singapore (SCMS), Singapore's marquee running event has been been named Best Sports Event (Local) at the 2013 Singapore Sports Awards.
In 2012, 53,000 people participated in the Marathon, joining in various categories of events including the Full Marathon, Half Marathon, 10 kilometre and the 'Kids Dash'.
The Singapore Sports Awards (SSA) represents Singapore's most prestigious and exclusive recognition for our sports talents each year, honouring the outstanding sporting achievements of sportsmen and sportswomen in both national and international competition.
Other awards were presented to:
• Best Sport Event (International) HSBC Women's Championship
• Team of the Year (Event) National Sailing 420 Women's Team
• Team of the Year (Team Sport) National Football Men's Team at the ASEAN Football Federations Suzuki Cup.
Registration for the 2013 SCMS, being held on Sunday 1st December , will officially open on Thursday 4th July 2013 from 11am at The Event Square, Waterfront Promenade @ Marina Bay and online from 6pm.
With provision for 62,000 runners, in 2013 participation quota for the Full Marathon, 10 kilometre and Kids Dash categories remain unchanged at 25,000, 20,000 and 5,000 respectively while, as a result of its popularity, the participation quota for the Half Marathon category has been increased from 10,000 to 12,000.
