Sports Commission launches ‘Warm up with Winter Sport’ campaign
Aiming to encourage children and adults to get active through sport during the cooler months through sport, the Australian Sports Commission (ASC) has unveiled its 'Warm up with Winter Sport' campaign.
Aligning with the sector-wide Play Well strategy, which focuses on making sport fun, safe, welcoming and inclusive for all, the campaign is backed by a lineup of Australian athletes.
Backing the campaign, Diamonds netball players Sophie Dwyer, stated “with the cooler weather on the way, it’s time to decide how you’ll warm up with winter sport. Whether it’s as a coach, volunteer, spectator or player, there’s a place for you.”
The ASC notes that it “is working closely with national sporting organisations to spread this message through social media and a paid marketing initiative.
The campaign will direct Australians to the ASC’s Get Involved page, where they can find nearby sports programs, clubs and opportunities to participate.”
As has traditionally been the case with the ASC, the emphasis of the campaign is on traditional club-based sport, rather than trying to engage with less structured sport or achieve overall improvements in physical activity among the wider community.
This is despite sudies that show Australians are moving from traditional sports to embrace informal participation.
