Sport and active recreation volunteers supported in Northern Territory
NT Sport and Active Recreation Volunteer Development Grants are now open for which territory peak sporting bodies and active recreation organisations can apply for their share of $100,000 to develop and support their volunteers.
The NT Sport and Active Recreation Volunteer Development Grants are part of the NT Government’s Sport Volunteer Action Plan to help upskill and support the volunteers.
The NT plan aligns to the Sport Volunteering Coalition Action Plan, led by the Australian Sports Commission, which is transforming the sport volunteer experience in Australia.
Volunteers donate their time and effort into sporting and active recreation activities across the NT. They perform a range of roles including coaching, officiating and other key positions on committees and in team management.
The grants aim to assist organisations in developing best practice planning, recruitment and recognition programs and retention strategies to increase and better equip our volunteers.
Giving volunteers the opportunity to expand their skillset will improve how our sporting and active recreation clubs are run.
Territory Minister for Sport, Kate Worden reinforced the vital role volunteers play in delivering sport to over 120,000 people who participate in the Territory each year.
"Without volunteers, children and families wouldn't be able to participate in sport the way they do.
"We're making sure our hard-working volunteers have the resources, skills and support they need to keep sport and active recreation alive and well in the Territory,” Minister Worden shared.
Volleyball Northern Territory President, Luke Seib was excited to see the tangible impacts the plan would have on sport in the north and added "having an action plan from government dedicated to promoting and supporting volunteering in sport, with funding to back it, will make the world of difference to our volunteers and our sport.
"Our volunteers are not only passionate people, they're accredited and they work hard every week to make Volleyball NT the success it is. It's so important that we support them anyway we can.”
Expressions of interest close on 20th October. For more information and to apply visit grantsnt.nt.gov.au.
