Grassroots sport and recreation volunteers in Victoria supported with new funding

The latest round of the Victorian Government’s Sporting Club Grants Program places a strong focus on supporting, celebrating and building the capacity of sports volunteers in vital roles – from administration to coaching and umpiring.

Grants of up to $2,000 are available for projects to strengthen volunteering and officiating. Grants are also available up to $4,000 to deliver a new sport or recreation program; up to $750 to support athlete travel; and up to $1,000 available for uniforms, equipment and resources that improve accessibility and engagement.

By providing more opportunities for local clubs and organisations, the program goes a long way towards future-proofing grassroot sports, while ensuring those participating are equipped with the necessary skills to take their game to the next level.

The Sporting Club Grants Program has provided more than $16 million to thousands of community sport and recreation clubs across the state since 2015.

It’s part of the State Government’s commitment to make community sport and recreation more inclusive and accessible, stimulate local economies, build sustainable sport and recreation volunteer opportunities and increase participation.

Victorian Minister for Community Sport Ros Spence noted “Sport clubs are a real focal point for local communities, providing a place where locals can come together to play, volunteer, learn new skills and provide support for each other in good and tough times.

“That’s why we’re supporting even more clubs with help towards training, volunteer and skills development as well as funds for uniforms, equipment and travel costs.

“These grants provide a real boost for clubs and communities, allowing more Victorians to get involved in the sports they love.”

Cranross Tennis Club Secretary and Treasurer Lynda Martin shared “Our committee of volunteers are ambassadors for Cranross Tennis Club. They promote its values and create a sense of belonging.

“By building connections with members and willingly giving their time and skills, our volunteers encourage community engagement and active participation in the sport we all love - tennis! Without them the club would not have survived 100 years.”

Applications for this round close at 4pm on 12th October 2023. For more information and to apply for Sporting Club Grants Program visit sport.vic.gov.au
