Splashez Aquatic Centre enjoys busy summer in advance of official Australia Day reopening

Splashez Aquatic Centre is experiencing a busy summer period, with recent visitor numbers indicating the recently reopened facility will experience a bumper year.

Since the reopening of the Mt Isa facility on 31st October, almost 9000 people walked through its gates. In the week before Christmas, 1700 visited to enjoy amenities, including a 50 metre swimming pool, kids’ wading pool and rapid-river ride, and barbecue facilities.

As reported by The North West Star newspaper, the facility will enjoy an official reopening with Australia Day activities on 26th January 2019.

Soon a new kiosk will be up and running, and there is also a new amenities block for visitors.

The old entrance has been closed off, and a new entrance, accessible from the side street between Splashez and the Skate Park, is now being used.

Splashez Manager Matt Kelly said the activities undertaken at the centre by external groups included learn-to-swim classes, aqua aerobics, and adult and junior squads. Splashez is also used for school swimming carnivals and birthday parties, and by the Isa RATS.

Kelly said he expected these activities and visitor numbers to continue throughout 2019, commenting “normally at this time of year it’s pretty quiet, because people are away, but the numbers have been up lately – and hopefully it will just keep getting better.”
