Spiegeltent returns to the Hobart waterfront
Following its strong performance in 2014, the spectacular Spiegeltent will be opening on the Hobart waterfront in March for more than three weeks of live entertainment.
The ornate Salon Jean-Louis Spiegeltent was a huge hit when in Hobart when it hosted 18 days of cabaret, burlesque, acrobatics, comedy and music in March last year.
Almost 15,000 tickets were sold to shows performed by 33 local, national and international acts.
The 2015 season looks will be expecting sell-out crowds during an expaned 25 day run on the Princes Wharf 1 forecourt from 5th to 29th March as part of the recently re-branded Tasmanian International Arts Festival (the former 10 Days on the Island Festival).
David Malacari, Artistic Director of Festival organiser Ten Days told the Hobart Mercury “more than 150 international, national and Tasmanian performers will showcase a unique and exciting array of comedy, cabaret, music, circus, burlesque and acrobatic performances, as well as family-friendly fun that cannot be missed.
“And a selection of Spiegeltent performers will also be stepping out of the tent to astound audiences in Launceston, Devonport and Burnie as part of the festival’s Spiegel Sideshow program.”
Renowned Australian company Circa will headline the Spiegeltent program with its circus cabaret show Beyond, which features a surreal mix of comedy, music and magic tricks aimed at adults and children alike.
This year’s hottest Spiegeltent ticket, La Soirée, will return with its combination of acrobatics, circus skills and cabaret acts while La Soirée performer Le Gateau Chocolat will also present his solo show I ? Chocolat.
Comedy acts including Denise Scott, Colin Lane, Jason Byrne, Ronny Chieng and The Axis of Awesome.
The diverse music program will feature Breabach, Archie Roach, Camille O’Sullivan, DJ Dexter, All Our Exes Live in Texas, James Morrison, Jordie Lane, L-FRESH The LION, Sóley, Asta and the trio Boden Lurighi Tanfield.
The Spiegeltent made its debut at the 10 Days on the Island Festival in 2014, having been acquired from the Arts Centre Melbourne after their 2014 Spiegeltent program was cancelled.
The addition of Spiegeltent to the Hobart calendar was a significant part of the city’s growing reputation as a cultural centre.
