Special fund for Queensland's flood affected events

In response to recent flooding, Tourism and Events Queensland (TEQ) has created a special one-off fund to support events in the State's flood declared council areas.

Launching the the TEQ 2013 Events Flood Assistance Program (EFAP), Queensland Tourism, Major Events, Small Business and the Commonwealth Games Minister, Jann Stuckey (pictured) explained "the (Queensland) Government recognises the importance of regional events in supporting Queensland's tourism industry, local businesses and jobs.

"The 2013 Events Flood Assistance Program will make available financial assistance to events that have suffered or been cancelled as a result of recent flooding.

"We have created a one-off $150,000 fund so events can apply for support to help with specific expenses.

"Events, particularly in smaller communities, are vital to the local economy and we want to make sure they can go ahead as planned, or are re-staged."

The EFAP is available for events held between 1st June 2013 and 29th September 2013.

Events must be held in a council area declared as flood affected by the Natural Disaster Relief Recovery Arrangements (NDRRA) since January 2013.

Funding received under the EFAP can be used for a range of expenses including:

Marketing costs associated with the event to increase awareness and drive visitation

The engagement of short-term, specialised personnel to develop or market the event or to replace personnel no longer involved due to flood events

Hire temporary infrastructure which will improve access, visitor experience or safety of the event including temporary toilets, fencing, and staging.

Applications for EFAP funds must be made by Friday 3rd May 2013.
