SPARC releases NZ Outdoor Recreation Strategy
New Zealand Sport and Recreation Agency (SPARC) has released its Outdoor Recreation Strategy.
The Strategy focuses on increasing participation in outdoor recreation, building the responsiveness of sector groups to the changes that impact on participation, and ensuring that pressures on the natural areas used for outdoor recreation are managed effectively and in a way that is beneficial to outdoor recreation.
The Strategy is the result of a process begun with a SPARC-led review in 2007 of the outdoor recreation sector with support from the Department of Conservation. The review findings were outlined in a discussion document âCreating a healthy state for outdoor recreation in New Zealandâ released in July 2008. The strategy was finalised following receipt of public submissions.
A vibrant and co-ordinated recreation sector is one of the five key priorities under the SPARC Strategic Plan 2009-2015 and the successful implementation of the Outdoor Recreation Strategy is one of the deliverables outlined under that priority.
