South east Melbourne A-League bid group announces ambitious Dandenong stadium plans
Planning to secure an A-League license in Melbourne’s south east, the Team 11 group have revealed bold plans for a 15,000-seat home stadium in Dandenong.
Concept designs for the planned $170 million rectangular venue, to be located on a site 100 metres from Dandenong station, have been prepared by Cox Architecture.
Team 11, a joint venture of the City of Greater Dandenong, City of Casey and Cardinia Shire Council, in partnership with the local community, announced in October 2017 that Cox would prepare concept images and help identify a suitable site for the ‘boutique’ rectangular stadium.
The new venue would occupy land on Cheltenham Road, to be donated by the City of Greater Dandenong.
Team 11 are competing against two rival bids from Melbourne, and eight from interstate for one of two new proposed A-League franchises that will join the competition in the 2019/20 A-League season.
Football Federation Australia will announce the new licences in October.
Greater Dandenong Councillor Jim Memeti said the “stadium is not just about the creation of what can be an enormous football club, this will be a prized asset for our region, catering for a wide range of sporting events, multicultural festivals, concerts and functions.”
