Snow Australia Women of Winter program launches with leadership webinar
Snow Australia has advised of the launch of its ‘Women of Winter’ (WoW) program with a live webinar that will explore the topic of leadership on Thursday 13th May 2021.
The webinar is the first initiative of the WoW program, created by Snow Australia in late 2020 to champion women involved in the snow sports industry and empower them to reach their full personal and professional potential.
Sydney 2000 Beach Volleyball Olympic Champion Kerri Pottharst OAM will moderate a prestigious panel discussion with some of the most successful and inspirational female leaders within the snow industry. Olympic champion aerialist Alisa Camplin-Warner AM, 2020 and 2022 Australian Paralympic Team Chef de Mission Kate McLoughlin and Belinda Trembath, Vail Resorts' general manager for Victoria and Mt Hotham, will discuss the notion of leadership and share experiences and insights acquired during their amazing careers.
Advising that the program reflects a long standing tradition of gender neutrality for the organisation in terms of opportunities for athletes and participation at all levels of snow sports, Snow Australia Chief Executive, Michael Kennedy stated “the majority of our high performance success over the years has been attributed to female athletes and our Winter Olympic Teams have consistently been equal in terms of gender representation.
“Disappointingly however, the gender balance seen in our pathways has not to this point translated into coaching cohorts and involvement in our technical committees, both nationally and internationally.
“I welcome the opportunity to engage, promote and inspire more women to become involved in the administration and leadership of our sport. I am excited about this initiative and look forward to supporting it in any way I can.”
The 2021 Snow Australia: Women of Winter program will continue throughout the year with a series of educational courses, mentoring opportunities and conferences, covering a wide range of popular topics as identified by the snow community.
The launch follows a successful consultation process conducted earlier in the year by Snow Australia to ensure that contents and activities would meet the interests and demands of the public. The survey has allowed Snow Australia to tailor a program of activities that will facilitate the creation of a collaborative and supportive environment, where women will be able to learn, grow professionally and develop their network, with the ultimate goal of increasing the number of females working and volunteering in administration, coaching and leadership roles within the sport.
Among the educational resources already confirmed, Snow Australia will offer two additional online leadership-skills development courses facilitated by Snow Australia Director and Marketing Consultant Suzie Warwick.
The first webinar, ‘Establishing your Core Values & Principles’ will be online on 27th May and the second course, ‘Developing Communication Skills and Styles for Effective Leadership’ will be available on 3rd June.
