Skill shortage sees Shepparton Aquamoves cancel some swimming lessons

Greater Shepparton City Council’s Aquamoves has had to cancel a number of swimming lessons due to an industry shortage of qualified Swimming Instructors. The cancellation will take effect from the beginning of Term Two lessons which resume on Monday 17th April 2023.

Council’s Manager Active Living, David Booth said recruiting new Swimming Instructors is a high priority and advised “the decision to reduce lessons was not made lightly. Recruitment and training for new swimming instructors is in progress, but we want to make sure all individuals are ready to teach at the highest level and training can take several months.”

“As our instructor numbers return to more sustainable levels we will reach back out to families to re-enrol their children back into the program.’

Council encourages qualified Swimming Instructors interested in filling positions to reach out to Aquamoves by phoning 5832 9400 or emailing customerservice@aquamoves.com.au.

Individuals interested in a Swimming Instructor role are also urged to keep an eye out on future training opportunities. An upcoming ‘Swimming and Water Safety Teacher’ course will be held at Aquamoves on Saturday 15th April 2023 and enrolments can be made by visiting the Life Saving Victoria website
