Aquamoves upgrades 25 metre indoor pool during Victoria’s COVID-19 restrictions
Under COVID-19 Stage Three restrictions, Greater Shepparton City Council is taking advantage of the closure of its aquatic and fitness centre, Aquamoves, and is retiling the 25metre indoor pool – a much needed and long-awaited project.
On Time Developments has been contracted to undertake the works, which in recent weeks has seen the entire 25metre pool stripped back to its shell and all tiles removed. The next stage will include preparing the pool and immediate surrounds for new tiles to be laid.
Greater Shepparton City Council Director Infrastructure, Phil Hoare advises that the upgrade will ensure the facility remains safe and accessible for its users.
Hoare adds “prior to COVID-19, Aquamoves was receiving more than 650,000 visitors annually, with the 25metre pool being one of the facility’s key attractions. However after 23 years of high usage, a major upgrade was needed in order to continue meeting our community’s needs in a safe manner.
“This is an important community facility and as well as ensuring the safety of the pool, these significant works will also reduce the ongoing operational repair and maintenance costs.”
It is important to note while the 25metre indoor pool will not be available until these works are finished, other facilities at Aquamoves will reopen as restrictions are eased. This includes the centre’s leisure and hydrotherapy pools.
The retiling project is expected to be completed by late November/early December this year.
