Shortlist announced for inaugural International Award for Excellence in Sports Education

The World Academy of Sport (WAoS) has announced the three individuals who have been shortlisted to be considered for its inaugural ‘International Award for Excellence in Sports Education’ which will be presented at the Manchester Sports Awards in October 2019.

Introducing the Awards, WAoS Managing Director, Chris Solly stated “this new Award celebrates the great work being done across the industry in the sports education space, at either the grassroots or high-performance level.

“The contenders shortlisted to be the first recipient of the Award are operating at the regional development/national level in their sports organisations and have been earmarked for upcoming success based on the programs and projects they directly work on.

“Overall, the submissions for this inaugural Award were of an extremely high calibre, representing a range of sports organisations from around the world.”

The three contenders for the Award who have made the shortlist are:

• Ghizela Enslin - Coaches Manager, Tennis South Africa
• Tan Teck Hock - Principal, Singapore Sports School
• Rebekah Wilson - Program Manager, Diane Modahl Sports Foundation

Submissions from the three shortlisted contenders (in the form of written questionnaires and short videos highlighting their work) will now be assessed by a panel of esteemed industry judges from WAoS’ International Advisory Board.

The judges will score them based on a range of criteria including: inclusiveness/diversity of the program they work on; educational legacy of the programme they work on; impact on community or the sport; and personal achievements and/or influence on the programme.

The three shortlisted contenders have been invited to attend the Manchester Sports Awards on the evening of Saturday 19th October and the winner will be announced on the night.

Solly added “we are particularly pleased to be presenting our first Award at the Manchester Sports Awards due to our head office being based in Manchester and because of the long-term partnership that WAoS has with Manchester City Council.”

The recipient of the Award will receive exclusive access to an appropriate training or development opportunity offered by WAoS that will be tailored to their individual needs.
