Shoalhaven Arts Board opens Art Grants 2021

Shoalhaven City Council has advised that its Arts Board is offering arts grants in two different streams to assist artists, performers, art groups and arts professionals to create work and to boost their professional development.

‘A Sense of Place’ themed arts project grants, of up to $10,000, are available to support photography, music, dance, new art forms, performance and literature with an outstanding public outcome. It also supports applications for public art intended to improve community engagement with the arts and enhance the urban environments of the Shoalhaven.

Arts Practitioners Professional Development Grants, of up to $3,000, are available to support individual artists, arts workers and small groups to build or enhance their skills and develop sustainable careers in visual, performing and literary arts. Eligible activities include mentorships, residencies, research trips, masterclasses and creative development.

Shoalhaven City Mayor Amanda Findley is pleased to see the Shoalhaven arts community continuing to receive support during COVID.

Mayor Findley notes “the Arts Board Grants help to build the creative profile of the Shoalhaven. This year, the grants will enable freelance artists, smaller performing arts companies and community groups to continue to work despite the lack of performance and exhibition opportunities. I strongly encourage all artists to consider applying for these grants.”

Chairman of the Arts Board, Councillor John Wells adds “these grants support the Board's vision to make the Shoalhaven a recognised outstanding arts destination that connects people, fosters sustainable communities and celebrates Indigenous and contemporary cultural development.

“The grants will help to raise individual artist profiles in the community and provide valuable artistic enhancement to the Shoalhaven.”

Applications for the grants close on Friday 10th December 2021. For further information, and to apply, visit Council’s Grants and Funding webpage
