Sergeant leaves Allphones Arena for Etihad Stadium
Paul Sergeant is to leave his role as General Manager of Sydney's Allphones Arena in September to become Chief Executive of Etihad Stadium in Melbourne.
Rod Pilbeam, Executive Director of venue manager, AEG Ogden, Rod Pilbeam confirmed Sergeant's resignation today stating "we are of course sad to see Paul go, and thank him for the fabulous job he did in cementing the Arena's dominant position in the Sydney marketplace. We wish him the best in his new role."
Sergeant joined Allphones Arena in September 2010, having also been General Manager of Brisbane's Suncorp Stadium between 2007 and 2009. In between those roles he was chief executive of a privately owned, professional Rugby Club and its venue in his native Wales.
Among Paul's previous roles hew as the Director of both Wembley Arena and Wembley Stadium in London and Chief Executive of the world renowned Millennium Stadium in Cardiff.
In 2007, he was made an Officer of the Order of the British Empire for services to the events industry.
AEG Ogden expect to announce Paul's successor shortly, Pilbeam adding "while (Paul's) departure is unfortunate, the up-side is that it does provide the Arena's business with a great opportunity and the chance for the Arena's team to benefit from fresh leadership.
"We are already in discussion with some outstanding candidates internal and external from AEG Ogden - who we believe can further develop the success that the Allphones Arena business has enjoyed over the past six years.
"We expect to make an announcement of the new General Manager in the coming days."
AEG Ogden manages Allphones Arena on behalf of the Nine Entertainment Company, which leases the venue from the NSW Government.
