Scenic World to launch augmented reality attraction featuring children’s book character

Scenic World in the Blue Mountains is to launch its augmented reality attraction - The Gruffalo Spotters Trail - on 3rd September featuring the much-loved children’s book character, The Gruffalo.

First published in 1999 The Gruffalo has been described as a 'modern classic' and together with its companion book, The Gruffalo's Child, they have sold over 25 million copies worldwide and been published in over 105 languages. In 2009 Magic Light Pictures produced a half hour animated special based on The Gruffalo which premiered on BBC One, Christmas Day 2009 to over 10 million viewers and has since won many international awards, including being nominated for an Oscar. The second Gruffalo’s Child film was premiered in 2011 and proved to be just as popular.

For the Scenic World experience, from 3rd September families can download the free Gruffalo Spotter 2 App, before setting off on an adventure on the world’s steepest train, the Scenic Railway into the Jamison Valley, and searching the deep, dark woods along Scenic World’s elevated boardwalk for interactive signs that trigger the appearances of the characters.

Using the free Gruffalo Spotter 2 App, visitors will be able to take photos and videos of themselves with the characters as the five signs along the walk activate Mouse, Fox, Owl, Snake and the Gruffalo.

Managing Director of Scenic World, Anthea Hammon enthused “we are delighted to be able to offer The Gruffalo Spotters 2 Trail experience as part of our Unlimited Discovery ticket.  As the mother of two small children, and like many other Australians, we are huge Gruffalo fans and can’t wait to go searching for the characters amongst our beautiful rainforest.”

The Gruffalo Spotters 2 App & Trail experience will be calling Scenic World home until at least July 2023 and is included in the price of the Unlimited Discovery Pass – from $49.90 for an adult and from $27.90 for a Child. Children under 3 are free.
