SCEC appoints New Director of Operations
The Sydney Convention and Exhibition Centre (SCEC) has appointed Stephen Wood as its new Director of Operations, overseeing the delivery of all events at the venue.
Wood, who has been acting Director of Operations at SCEC since January last year, joined the Centre in February 2000 in the catering and event services division.
Over the past 11 years he has built his event experience over a range of roles, holding the positions of event manager, account manager and Director of Sales ï¾ National.
Announcing the appointment, Sydney Convention and Exhibition Centre Chief Executive Ton van Amerongen said Wood had a thorough understanding of the events industry and venue management, developed over his years at the Centre.
van Amerongen explained "Stephen has been an invaluable member of our team for many years and we are delighted to announce his appointment to this important position."
Van Amerongen said the Director of Operations' role was crucial to the Centre, overseeing the successful delivery of all events, adding that "Stephen's role is to make sure we provide a world-class service to our clients and meet our potential in all areas."
SCEC ranks as Australia's busiest meetings venue, hosting around 600 events a year.
Wood holds a Bachelor of Economics and a Bachelor of Laws and is an active member of the events industry, presently serving as Vice Chair and Treasurer on the Meetings and Events Australia NSW Branch Committee.
