ALFA backs Federal Government's combination of health and sport portfolios
The Australian Leisure Facilities Association (ALFA) has commended the new Federal Government for combining the portfolios of Health and Sport, and congratulated Peter Dutton on his appointment as Minister for Health and Minister for Sport.
ALFA has corresponded with the new Minister, stating "our national network of community recreation and leisure facilities are vital elements in creating healthy and productive communities.
"They are a valuable investment in the health, well-being and social capital of the Australian community, delivering a diverse range of benefits, including:
• Reduced primary and allied health care costs;
• A healthier workforce;
• Improved community mental and physical health;
• A happier and socially connected community;
• A more educated community;
• Job creation; and
• A reduction in crime
"ALFA's national network of facilities is uniquely placed to reach high-risk client groups and assist Government to reduce its primary health care costs.
"ALFA is looking forward to a future where its network of leisure facilities can work in partnership with Government as key local providers of health and wellness services."
ALFA is looking for an early meeting with Minister Dutton to discuss how its network of professionals can work, in collaboration with Government, to ensure a coordinated and strategic approach is adopted in utilising the existing capacity of recreation and leisure facilities to assist the Government in achieving its national health agenda outcomes.
