SafeWork SA emphasises health and safety through Adelaide’s major festival season

With Adelaide set to host a range of events and festivals over the next few months, SafeWork SA acting Executive Director Chris McKie has explained how agency is working with event organisers to ensure the safety of workers and patrons.

With these popular events drawing large crowds, Mckie is conscious of their diverse safety issues.

McKie explained “SafeWork SA works with event organisers as they identify and address risks to workers and others.

“Our inspectors are involved at all stages of events and festivals, from the set-up to the bump-out, to ensure compliance with the state’s work health and safety laws.”

Inspectors and industry advisors from the compliance and education arms of SafeWork SA play a key role in regulating safety responsibilities and informing businesses about work health and safety protections for workers, volunteers and patrons at public events.

Inspectors will be helping event planners with compliance activity including verifying the safety of temporary structures, such as stages and marquees; electrical items; fireworks; amusement devices and the storage of dangerous substances such as LPG.

SafeWork SA industry advisors will also be working with event organisers and associated hospitality industry operators to provide education on how to identify, assess and manage workplace risks.

This can include visits from mobile work health and safety advisors who provide tailored support.
