Robyn Larkham receives National AUSTSWIM Teacher of Infant & Preschool Aquatics Award
Swimming and water safety teaching body AUSTSWIM has named Sydney’s Robyn Larkham as the recipient of its National Teacher of Infant and Preschool Aquatics Award.
A dedication to working with children combined with a love of the water inspired Larkham to become an AUSTSWIM licensed teacher of swimming and water safety 12 years ago.
Since then she has built her knowledge base and skills with AUSTSWIM accreditations in a range of courses.
She says her greatest challenge as a teacher was to understand the individual needs of each child and teach them accordingly, commenting "they are all different and can learn in their own way."
Larkham's nomination acknowledged her phenomenal dedication to water safety for infants and pre-schoolers, highlighting how she makes classes fun for both the young participants and their parents.
The national award, the Jack Hanson Clarke Perpetual Scholarship, is supported by Belgravia Leisure which recognises excellence in aquatic education.
The Award is one of eight national AUSTSWIM awards that recognise brilliance, commitment and innovation in the teaching of swimming and water safety.
Larkham received her award at the AUSTSWIM NSW Regional Aquatic Conference 2017 at the Sawtell RSL Club.
The award was presented by Jared Wilson AUSTSWIM General Manager - Operations.
Larkham has also written a water safety book for three to six-year-olds that is unique in NSW and widely used in water safety talks.
