Redeveloped Murray Bridge Swimming Centre set for season opening
With the first stage of its $2.8 million redevelopment completed, the Murray Bridge Swimming Centre is on schedule to reopen as of next Friday (30th October).
Due to open for community use during the summer at the end of the month, the facility’s refurbishment has included the renovation of its 50-metre pool with upgraded pipework, filtration and chlorination systems - necessary upgrades needed for an increased water capacity – along with an access ramp and upgrades to the children's and toddlers pools and changing rooms.
The work represents the first stage of Murray Bridge Swimming Centre Masterplan, a $32 million five-stage blueprint to create a year-round regional aquatic and recreation facility. Later stages of the facility’s redevelopment include a 25-metre indoor pool, spa, gym, cafe, creche and multi-purpose meeting space.
Stage one was partially funded by a $1 million grant to the Rural City of Murray Bridge from the South Australian Office for Recreation Sport and Racing.
Commenting on the project, Murray Bridge Mayor Brenton Lewis told The Murray Valley Standard that rejuvenation of the facility over winter was the first step in a long term design to build an enviable regional centre the community can be proud of.
Inviting the community to the facility, Mayor Lewis "it hasn't been an easy year for anyone and we need to celebrate the wins when they come-observing socially distancing of course.”
