Redeveloped Boardman Stadium a key sporting hub for the Sunbury region

Open to the local community since January, a $5.75 million redevelopment of Sunbury's Boardman Stadium has been officially opened by Victorian Minister for Sport and Recreation Hugh Delahunty.

Hume City Council injected $4.9 million in the project, which was supported by the Victoria Government ($650,000) and the Sunbury Basketball Association ($200,000).

This major project included the addition of two new indoor sports courts that have helped transform the arena into a key regional sports facility.

Named after local newspaper identity, Eric Boardman, who served many local sports and community organisations throughout his lifetime, the stadium now caters for thousands of people each week including day and night competition grade matches as well as social matches.

Opening the facility, Minister Delahunty stated "local basketball is more popular than ever and the two extra courts will allow the growing Sunbury Basketball Association competition as well as the local Big V Basketball League team, the Sunbury Jets a chance to accommodate extra fans and players.

"The new courts are also marked for netball, and will be open to a number of other sports as well as community events, redefining Boardman Stadium as more than just a basketball stadium but a sporting hub that caters for everyone."

Designed by OSA Architects and built by Devco Construction, the Boardman Stadium's highlights are:

International size basketball and netball show court with a seating capacity for more than 320 spectators;

Show court spectator viewing and social area;

Additional multi-purpose indoor sports court;

New player change rooms and amenities; and

New entry, foyer and reception area for patrons.
